The Hynds Downstream Defender® is an advanced hydrodynamic vortex separator designed to provide high removal efficiencies of settleable solids and floatables over a wide range of flow rates. The high removal efficiencies and low headloss of the Hynds Downstream Defender® allow for a small footprint making it a compact and economical solution for stormwater pollution. The Hynds Downstream Defender® has no moving parts. Instead it uses advanced hydraulically modelled flow paths to create stable flow vortices in the system.
The centrifugal force created by the vortices, combined with the gravitational force on the sediment, ensures that sediment is separated from the stormwater and transferred to a separate storage area. Captured particles are stored at the base of the system and cannot be re-entrained. Floatables, oils and greases are captured in the outer section of the unit.
